Approach to Political Contributions
Chevron receives many requests for contributions. In determining our support for candidates, we consider their prior voting records on issues of importance to Chevron; their leadership or committee assignments; whether they generally support economic development, free enterprise and good governance; and whether the company or our employees have a constituent relationship. In the United States, corporations are prohibited by law from making contributions to candidates running for U.S. federal office and for state and local offices in certain states.
We make political contributions only in limited instances outside the United States. Our contributions are always made in accordance with local laws and regulations. These contributions support candidates and parties whose public-policy positions are aimed at encouraging both energy development and broad, sustainable economic growth.
Our internal Web site allows our employees to track our support of political initiatives and our financial contributions. Chevron supports employees' participation in the political process by providing information about candidates, an online voter registration mechanism and the ability to request absentee ballots.
