"We are delivering the power of education to Venezuelans who need it most — disadvantaged students seeking hope and opportunity."
In Venezuela, Chevron is working with the Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership to launch 16 learning centers in three states. The centers will provide educational media technology to more than 63,000 rural or underprivileged students. Each center will be equipped with a television, DVD player, a library of specially produced, locally relevant educational video programming as well as access to other related materials.
These centers will receive three years of teacher training and technical support. The learning centers also will be available to local communities, providing resources that can be used to organize workshops on topics such as HIV/AIDS, health, micro-enterprise and agriculture.
Chevron and the Discovery Channel also have established learning centers in Angola and South Africa.
