"Our employees can't contribute their best if the health of their families and communities is threatened by HIV/AIDS. Through treatment, we are improving the lives of those with the disease. Our education programs help employees understand that HIV/AIDS is a preventable disease."
A number of Chevron's major operations are in countries threatened by HIV/AIDS. In 2005, we began implementing a corporatewide policy to provide employees and their dependents access to care and treatment where available. A global Chevron team of regional coordinators is working together to better understand the threat of HIV/AIDS and to find appropriate solutions that will help fight the disease's spread. Part of this effort promotes workplace and community programs focused on education, awareness, prevention and treatment. In Angola and Nigeria, the company provides confidential testing, counseling and antiretroviral drugs to employees and their dependents.
In Cabinda, Angola, we are providing antiretroviral drugs to HIV-positive mothers and their infants in the community. In 2005, the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS commended Chevron for its work in Angola.
