    James R. (Jim) Blackwell

    Executive Vice President, Technology and Services

    James R. (Jim) Blackwell is executive vice president, technology and services, for Chevron Corporation a position he assumed in March 2011. In this position, Blackwell is responsible for the oversight of technology at Chevron. He also is responsible for major capital project management, procurement and several other corporate operating and support functions.

    Previously, Blackwell served as president of Chevron Asia Pacific Exploration and Production Company. As president, Blackwell was responsible for Chevron's exploration and production activities in nine countries across the Asia-Pacific region.

    Blackwell was born in Mississippi in 1958. He earned bachelor's degrees in biology and environmental technology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1980 and a master's degree in petroleum engineering from Tulane University in 1984.

    Blackwell began his career in the energy industry in 1980 as a roustabout with Gulf Oil, based in Venice, La. Since then, he has held a variety of technical, operational and line management positions of increasing responsibility at Chevron in the United States, Nigeria and Kazakhstan.

    From 2002 to 2003, Blackwell was the president of ChevronTexaco Pipe Line Company, based in Houston. From 2003 to 2007, Blackwell served as the managing director for Chevron's Southern Africa strategic business unit, based in Luanda, Angola. He had responsibility for exploration and production activities in the southern region of Africa.

    Blackwell chairs the advisory board of the School of Economics and Business Administration at St. Mary's College in Moraga, Calif., and serves on the board of directors of the National Bureau of Asian Research and the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, Inc. He is a member of the CSIS U.S.-China Policy Roundtable and the CSIS U.S.-ASEAN Strategy Commission.
