George L. Kirkland
Vice Chairman of the Board and
Executive Vice President of Upstream and Gas
George L. Kirkland is vice chairman of the board of directors for Chevron Corporation, a position he has held since 2010. He also is executive vice president of Upstream and Gas, a position he has held since 2005. In addition to board responsibilities, Kirkland is responsible for Chevron's global exploration, production and gas activities.
Previously Kirkland served as president of Chevron Overseas Petroleum from 2002 to 2004 and was responsible for global exploration and production activities outside North America.
He has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility, including president of Chevron U.S.A. Production Co., chairman and managing director of Chevron Nigeria Ltd., and group manager of upstream technology for Chevron Research and Technology Co.
Kirkland is a member of the board of the Corporate Council on Africa, a member of the board of trustees of the Africa-America Institute, a director of the US-ASEAN Business Council, and a director of the U.S.-Kazakhstan Business Association.
Kirkland was born in 1950 in Lakeland, Fla. He began his career as a facility engineer for Chevron in 1974 in New Orleans, La. Kirkland graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's and a master's degree in civil engineering in 1972 and 1974, respectively.
