Lydia I. Beebe
Corporate Secretary and Chief Governance Officer
Lydia I. Beebe is corporate secretary and chief governance officer of Chevron Corporation. She was first elected corporate secretary in 1995. Beebe serves as secretary to the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and the Board Nominating and Governance Committee. In addition, her responsibilities include managing the Corporate Governance Department, counseling the Board of Directors and senior management on corporate governance and overseeing stockholder services for Chevron and its subsidiaries. She also serves on the Chevron Employees Political Action Committee Board of Directors.
Beebe joined Chevron in 1977 as an attorney and has held a variety of legal and government affairs positions, including legislative representative for Chevron in Washington, D.C., tax lawyer and senior manager in Chevron's tax department.
Beebe serves on the Board of Directors of the Council of Institutional Investors and the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals. She is past chairman of the society, the group's Corporate Practices Committee, and the 57th National Conference Committee for the society's 2003 conference. She is a frequent speaker and panelist on corporate governance topics. Recent forums include programs by the society, Conference Board, National Association of Corporate Directors, Directors' Forum, National Investor Relations Institute and the Association of Corporate Counsel.
Beebe served on the Board of Directors of the Presidio Trust, to which she was appointed by President George W. Bush, from 2003 until 2008. She was chairperson of the Trust board's finance and audit committee. Appointed by Governor Pete Wilson, Beebe served on the California Fair Employment and Housing Commission from 1991 to 1999 and was chairperson from 1995 through 1999. Beebe serves on the Board of Directors of the Lincoln Club of Northern California, the Board of Governors of the Kansas University Law Alumni, and on the boards of trustees of the National Judicial College and Golden Gate University. She is past president and board member and current advisory board member of the Professional Business Women of California. For more than 10 years she was a member of the San Francisco Municipal Fiscal Advisory Committee to the mayor.
In 2004, Beebe received Golden Gate University's Alumna of the Year award. In 1996, she received the "Breakthrough Award" from the Professional Business Women of California for her lasting and vital contributions to business and the community. Every year from 1999 through 2008, the San Francisco Business Times has named her one of "the most influential businesswomen in the Bay Area."
Beebe is a graduate of the University of Kansas and its law school and holds an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University. She is a native of McPherson, Kansas. She and her husband Charles Doyle have three children.
