C. A. (Chuck) Taylor
Vice President, Health, Environment and Safety
C. A. Taylor is vice president of Health, Environment and Safety for Chevron Corporation, a position he assumed in May 2007. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading Health Environment and Safety strategic planning and issues management, compliance and auditing, and emergency response. Taylor also plays a key role in implementing the company's operational excellence and organizational capability initiatives, which are important elements of Chevron's business strategy. In addition, Chevron's Environmental Management Company, which manages environmental remediation and abandonment liabilities, reports to Taylor.
A native of Indiana, Taylor was awarded a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Purdue University, Indiana in 1980. He also holds a master's degree in business administration from Tulane University, Louisiana, awarded in 1992. He was awarded the Allen R. Vorholt Award for academic and business leadership and was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma scholastic honor society in 1992.
Since joining the company as a drilling engineer, Taylor has held numerous domestic and international engineering and management positions in the upstream sector for Chevron in the United States, Indonesia, the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
Most recently, Taylor was general manager of the joint venture between Chevron Nigeria Ltd. and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company in Nigeria. There he was responsible for all exploration and production business activities of the joint venture. He also served as Chevron's representative on the executive committee of the Offshore Producers Trade Section, the primary upstream industry association in Nigeria.
From 1999 until 2003, Taylor was general manager, Chevron United Kingdom, based in Aberdeen, where he was responsible for all exploration and production business activities for upstream interests in the United Kingdom. He served as Chevron's representative to the board of directors of the United Kingdom Offshore Operators Association and Oil Spill Response Ltd. Taylor also represented Chevron in the oil and gas sector's Step Change Initiative to improve safety in Great Britain. Between 1996 and 1999, he was the manager of asset development and area operations manager of the Bekasap Strategic Business Unit of Caltex Pacific, Indonesia, in Duri, Sumatra, Indonesia.
