Michael K. (Mike) Wirth
Executive Vice President, Global Downstream
Michael K. (Mike) Wirth is Chevron Corporation's executive vice president for Global Downstream, a position he assumed in March 2006. He is responsible for directing the company's worldwide manufacturing, marketing, lubricants, and supply and trading businesses.
Previously, Wirth served as president of Global Supply and Trading, responsible for leading the corporation's worldwide supply and trading operations as well as its aviation, marine and asphalt businesses.
A native of Golden, Colorado, he graduated in 1982 from the University of Colorado with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
Upon graduation, he began his career with Chevron as a design engineer in the corporate engineering department. He went on to serve in a variety of engineering, construction and operations positions of increasing responsibility, including that of manager of Chevron's refinery in Portland, Oregon.
In 1998, Wirth was named senior retail manager for Western Marketing and was responsible for the company's retail marketing sales, strategic network planning, trade class rationalization and real estate development across the western United States. He also managed growth opportunities through retail investors, company investment and alliances with other companies, such as McDonald's.
Wirth was named general manager of Retail Marketing in 1999 and was responsible for all aspects of Chevron's U.S. retail marketing, including sales, brand management, advertising, pricing, credit card operations, e-business, real estate and station construction.
In August 2000, Wirth was named president of Marketing for Caltex Corp., based in Singapore. In that capacity, he was responsible for the company's retail, wholesale and aviation fuels marketing businesses across Asia and Africa. He also served on the board of directors for Caltex Australia Ltd. and LG-Caltex in South Korea.
In October 2001, upon the merger of Chevron and Texaco, Wirth was named president of Marketing for ChevronTexaco's Asia/Middle East/Africa marketing business unit, based in Singapore. Prior to that assignment, he led the company's refining and marketing business in that region on an interim basis.
Wirth was born in 1960. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife Julie and their four children.
