We work to assure compliance with our Operational Excellence (OE) requirements by verifying conformance with applicable company policy and government laws and regulations. Chevron's Corporate-Required Compliance Assurance Process establishes requirements, procedures and tools to:
- Identify and record applicable laws, regulations and company policies
- Assure employees and contractors understand and comply with requirements
- Develop and implement programs to verify effective controls are in place
- Conduct self-audits and independent audits to verify compliance
- Provide for anonymous reporting of violations
- Define and track actions when instances of noncompliance are identified
Self-audits by operating units and independent corporate OE audits are key drivers of compliance assurance. Our production and manufacturing operations undergo corporate audits every three years. Corporate audit teams are comprised of employees and external parties with experience and subject matter expertise in each operating unit's risk areas. These teams assess the design of our processes and the effectiveness of our operations consistent with these processes.
Independent Verification
Since 2004, Chevron has engaged an independent organization, Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), to verify that our Operational Excellence Management System meets international environmental and safety standards for major industrial companies.
In 2011, LRQA attested to the alignment of Chevron's Operational Management System (OEMS) with the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 and that OEMS is implemented throughout the corporation.
