Chevron is a leader in finished lubricants and a leading global manufacturer of premium base oil. We sell products on six continents and employ a diverse workforce.
Chevron is building a $1.4 billion premium base oil facility at our Pascagoula, Mississippi, refinery. The project is expected to make us the world's leading producer of premium base oil.
Base oil is the oil used in lubricant formulas before additives are introduced. Premium base oil is manufactured using an advanced process called ISODEWAXING®, which Chevron commercialized in 1993. ISODEWAXING catalysts break down the feedstock rather than remove the wax with solvents. The end result is a cleaner, clearer base oil with higher viscosity and strong resistance to oxidation. The process also produces higher yields.
The Pascagoula facility is expected to produce approximately 25,000 barrels of premium base oil daily for use in manufacturing high-performance lubricants such as motor oils for consumer and commercial uses. Mechanical completion of the project is expected by the end of 2013.
Our lubricants organization supplies products to a variety of commercial, industrial, marine and retail customers. A complete line of lubricants and coolants—including Havoline®, Delo® and Ursa®—are sold worldwide under our Chevron®, Texaco® and Caltex® brands. These products are made with premium base oil, enabling them to improve fuel economy, lower emissions and extend the period between oil changes.
