Summary

Chevron has systematic processes in place throughout the company to achieve operational excellence — which means that we protect the safety and health of people, protect the environment, and ensure reliable and efficient operations. In 2008, we operated at the safest level in our history and received one of the highest safety awards in the industry from the U.S. Minerals Management Service. For the seventh consecutive year, we improved our safety performance, reducing the rate of injuries severe enough to require days away from work by 29 percent, compared with 2007. Safety is our highest priority, and we will not be satisfied until we have zero incidents — no one injured. Energy efficiency, also a company priority, has improved by 28 percent since 1992, the year we began tracking.
