Strategy: Invest in people to strengthen organizational capability and develop a talented global workforce that gets results the right way.
We invest in people so that we have the right people with the right skills at the right place at the right time. We employ a highly talented workforce, and we draw upon the expertise of our employees to deliver outstanding performance. Our people and the values they demonstrate differentiate us from our competitors. We provide a wide range of career opportunities and offer a number of employee and leadership development programs to strengthen employee competencies. We further strengthen our organizational capability by ensuring that we have the critical knowledge, talent and systems in place to deliver our strategies.
Employee Development
We encourage the development of all employees in order to meet our business objectives. More than 2,600 employees are participating in Horizons, an accelerated development program to build the technical competency of employees who have fewer than five years of industry experience. Approximately 5,400 employees are participating in Pathways, a program for midcareer-level employees that helps them expand their individual competencies and strengths, discover areas for potential growth, and create career development plans and opportunities.
Leadership Development
It is important that we have leaders who can excel in a complex, global business environment. A number of programs are in place to develop leadership talent — from new supervisors to emerging executives. The focus of our succession management efforts is to ensure that we have a robust and diverse pipeline of leadership talent. We also rely upon our Chevron Fellows to identify, mentor and develop the next generation of technology leaders. Chevron Fellows have received worldwide recognition as experts in their fields and are distinguished as innovative developers and deployers of technical solutions.
Global Workforce
Hiring from local communities is good business. It not only contributes to economic growth and quality of life, but it also ensures that we have the necessary talent for expanding our presence in a country and capturing new opportunities as they arise. To expand our connections with the global workforce, our University Partnership Program has forged relationships with more than 90 leading universities around the globe, including schools in Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Scotland, Thailand and the United States.
