Chevron's involvement in the Chad-Cameroon project further demonstrates the company's commitment to fostering economic and social development in sub-Saharan Africa. As the pipeline project developed, Chevron worked with the World Bank and nongovernmental organizations that were key supporters of the project.
The project provides jobs, local business opportunities and other benefits for the people of Chad and the greater region. Chadian employees make up 90 percent of the project's workforce. The project employs more than 7,000 workers in Chad and more than 1,000 in Cameroon. Added together, the capital and operating project expenditures in 2010 were approximately $650 million.
