In the Netherlands, Chevron seeks to build partnerships that support the economic and social fabric of the communities where we work.
In 2012, Chevron's Annual Charity Golf Tournament raised more than $50,000 for four charities: the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM), the Dutch Burns Society (Nederlands Brandwonden Stichting), Foundation Thiotei, which raises funds for palliative care for cancer patients, and the Ronald McDonald Foundation. Chevron has been nominated for a Golden Pennant Award for raising funds for the KNRM.
A team of Chevron employees took part in the Amsterdam-Dakar Challenge—a 4,800-mile (7,800-km) auto rally from the Netherlands to Gambia. The intercontinental rally raised funds for the Jammeh Foundation, which provides health care in Gambia.
Our employees also collected funds for the children's charity Terre des Hommes and the Dutch Prostate Cancer Research Institute NKI-Antonie van Leeuwenhoek Hospital.
Chevron also provided funds for travel expenses and a wheelchair for one of the Netherlands' athletes competing in the London 2012 Paralympics. The athlete went on to win a gold medal.
Chevron also supports education in the Netherlands, funding several student organizations that provide a range of projects, conferences and student-related activities. We also sponsored the Petroleum Geological Society of the Netherlands, which organized a field trip to Denmark to learn more about geological formations.
In January 2013, Chevron supported a local high school in First Lego League, a program aimed at enhancing engineering and technology skills through robotics and computer programming. Chevron's sponsorship helped students participate and travel to national and international championship tournaments.
