Highlights of Operations
With more than 90 years in the Philippines, Chevron's investments and operations, in partnership with stakeholders, have resulted in significant milestones and contributions to the country's energy and petroleum industry.
Chevron is among the country's largest investors, with more than $2 billion in capital investments. The company provides direct and indirect employment for at least 21,000 people. Chevron operates through four business units in the Philippines: Our two upstream units are Chevron Geothermal Philippines Holdings, Inc., and Chevron Malampaya LLC. Our downstream unit is Chevron Philippines, Inc. (CPI), formerly Caltex Philippines Inc. We also operate Chevron Holdings Inc., a business processes organization.
In 1971, Chevron Geothermal Philippines Holdings pioneered – in partnership with the Philippine government – the commercial development of geothermal resources. The company now operates steam fields that provide geothermal energy to the Tiwi and Mak-Ban power plants in Albay and Laguna-Batangas provinces. Those plants supply power to Luzon, the country's most populous island. Due to the company's innovative efforts, the Philippines is the second-largest producer of geothermal energy in the world, after the United States. Chevron is currently the largest producer of geothermal energy in the world.
The Malampaya gas-to-power project, in which Chevron holds a 45 percent nonoperated interest, represents the largest single foreign investment in the Philippines and is viewed as a national flagship project by the Philippine Department of Energy.
In 1998, Chevron established the Manila Shared Services Center (MSSC), which now provides Chevron Corporation entities in the Asia-Pacific, Africa and North America regions with transactional, processing and consulting services in areas such as finance, human resources, procurement e-services, marketing and information technology. In the past 10 years, MSSC's workforce has grown to more than 1,000.
