Through our subsidiary Chevron Romania Exploration and Production S.R.L., Chevron explores for natural gas trapped in shale rock formations in Romania.
Chevron Romania owns and operates the Barlad Shale concession, a 1.6 million-acre (6,350-sq-km) license in northeast Romania. A 248-mile (400-km) 2-D seismic acquisition program was completed in 2011. We plan to begin drilling an exploration well in the second half of 2013.
In 2010, Chevron Romania was awarded three onshore blocks in the Dobrogea area in southeast Romania—Blocks 17, 18 and 19. In March 2012, Chevron obtained concessions for these blocks, which we own and operate. The blocks cover approximately 670,000 acres (2,700 sq km). A program to collect 2-D seismic information is planned for the second half of 2013.
In late 2011, Chevron began establishing a business presence in the capital, Bucharest. We are engaging and partnering with Romanian businesses that provide a range of support services.
