Chevron's social investments in Trinidad and Tobago focus on education, health and environmental programs.

Education

Chevron supports education programs that benefit Trinidad and Tobago's future workforce and support the nation's economy. The company supports two education initiatives.

The Safety Bus is a program that teaches safe driving techniques to young people between the ages of 5 and 19. A bus specially designed for this purpose is used to visit schools and to provide safety awareness sessions.

The Mayaro Home Work Center helps students after the school day in the Mayaro-Guayaguayare communities in southeast Trinidad. Students between the ages of 7 and 10 benefit from lessons that address gaps in their education.

Chevron remodeled three primary schools in rural areas of the country, benefiting more than 600 students. The interiors and exteriors of schools in Caratal, Tamana and Grand Riviere underwent extensive work. Roofs, ceilings, walls and floors were repaired. Entrances and exits were made safe. Bathrooms, drinking fountains and electrical systems were upgraded. Each school received a new first aid room, and the playgrounds were renovated.

Health

Chevron has supported the Hope of a Miracle Foundation to help critically ill children from low-income families receive medical treatments not available in their area. Through an alliance with International Kids, the foundation helped children in Trinidad and Tobago gain immediate access to essential medical treatments.

Environment

Protecting the environment is one of Chevron's key values. In Trinidad and Tobago, the company has a program to help protect endangered sea turtles.

Grande Riviere is a small, rural village along Trinidad's northern coast. It is home to one of the world's most important leatherback sea turtle nesting beaches. This beach, though less than a mile long, hosts more than 5,000 turtles per season. At the peak of the season, eggs will hatch in more than 500 nests in a single night. Unfortunately, few hatchlings survive to adulthood, mostly due to natural predators, such as birds and crustaceans.

Chevron contributes to a group in Grande Riviere that protects the turtles. Our funds have gone toward educational materials and have helped refurbish the Turtle Preservation Center.
