Today's economy presents extraordinary challenges for young people, with college graduates facing a 9.1 percent unemployment rate. While math and science education is critical to our future workforce, college graduates are also expected to have work experience prior to entering the job market. But how can students gain this foundational work experience?
At Chevron, internship opportunities have helped build a talented workforce pool and contributed to entry-level job placements, both inside and outside the energy industry for several decades. The internship program complements students' studies and helps them gain experience across several departments and disciplines at Chevron, from engineering to finance and research.
Internships are predominantly available in the summer months to accommodate student schedules. For the 2010-2011 academic year, Chevron hired approximately 200 interns in California alone.
