People of all ages connected with their inner scientists at more than 50 events showcasing the power of science at the second annual Bay Area Science Festival. Events were held from Santa Rosa to San Jose during the eight-day festival, which offered a variety of entertainment, education and scientific experiences.

Teaching Kids to Love Science

As the presenting sponsor of the Bay Area Science Festival, Chevron gave kids hands-on experience with STEM subjects.

The festival finished with a free event, Discovery Days at AT&T Park, on Nov. 3. The ballpark was transformed into a science wonderland with more than 150 interactive exhibits, hands-on activities and electrifying performances. Attendees were given the opportunity to train like an astronaut, build a spectroscope, adjust mini-solar panels to power a water pump and anchor a sports broadcast as part of the Chevron STEM Zone.

The festival was produced by the University of California, San Francisco with assistance from several science institutions across the Bay Area. 2012 marks the second year that Chevron sponsored the festival to engage young people in the fun, excitement and awe of science and inspire them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Chevron’s approach to improving K-12 public school STEM education includes supporting teacher development, enhancing curriculum, expanding classroom resources and promoting after-school activities.
