Californians may know us best for our 1,500 branded service stations, but our operations and infrastructure are all over the state, delivering energy around the clock.
Chevron’s presence can be seen all over California. Our roots go back over 130 years to the first major oil discovery near Los Angeles. Today, we’re a global energy leader. Explore this map to learn about the operations and infrastructure Chevron uses to safely discover, produce and deliver energy in California.
Chevron is California's top oil and gas producer, and most of the oil we produce in California stays in the state. We produce an average of 165,000 barrels of oil and 83 billion cubic feet of natural gas each day in California.
We operate two of the state's largest refineries, in Richmond and El Segundo. Together they process more than 500,000 barrels of crude oil a day. One in five cars in California runs on fuel manufactured by Chevron. We're also a top fuel provider to California's 15 largest airports.
We maintain more than 1,000 miles of pipeline in California, continuously delivering oil, natural gas, gasoline, diesel and aviation fuels.
Chevron is part of the fabric of California. Our roots go back more than 130 years, to the first major discovery of oil in the state. Our worldwide headquarters is in San Ramon.
Bakersfield
Most of Chevron's oil and gas production in California comes from our San Joaquin Valley Business Unit, headquartered in Bakersfield. We operate major oil fields and pipelines and maintain regional offices and technical support facilities in the area.
We have broken new ground by developing techniques used to increase production in mature fields and improve operational safety. And we are testing photovoltaic and solar-to-steam technologies at our operations in the San Joaquin Valley.

El Segundo
Opened in 1911, our El Segundo Refinery is the largest refinery on the West Coast. In 2011, it processed an average of 269,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The facility employs more than 1,100 workers and manufactures transportation fuels—gasoline, jet and diesel—primarily used in California.
The refinery is active in the community and supports programs that address basic human needs, education and training, and local business development. Refinery employees are also engaged in the community—sponsoring schools, coaching Little League teams, supporting a local aquarium and contributing to libraries and other community resources.
Richmond
The Richmond Refinery is one of the largest in the U.S. and has been operating since 1902. In 2011, it processed an average of 257,000 barrels of crude oil per day, producing motor gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel and lubricants. The Richmond Refinery supplies approximately two-thirds of the jet fuel used in the San Francisco Bay Area. The refinery manufactures high-quality base oil at the adjacent Richmond Base Oil Plant.
The Richmond Technology Center is the global headquarters for Chevron's automotive engine, industrial engine and specialty lubricants, as well as fuel additives product lines. Our chemists' innovations lead to the discovery and manufacture of new chemicals. Chevron Oronite develops, manufactures and markets more than 500 performance-enhancing additives for fuels and lubricating oils. It supplies a quarter of the world's fuel and lubricant additives.
San Francisco
Before moving to San Ramon, Chevron was headquartered in the historic Standard Oil Building in San Francisco's financial district for more than 50 years.
Now our energy efficiency subsidiary, Chevron Energy Solutions (CES), is headquartered in San Francisco. CES develops and builds sustainable energy projects that increase energy efficiency and production of renewable power, reduce energy costs, and ensure reliable, high-quality energy for government, education and business facilities in the United States. Since 2000, CES has developed hundreds of projects that have helped customers, including several in California, reduce their energy costs and environmental impact.
San Ramon
San Ramon is the world headquarters of Chevron. We are California's only integrated energy company—which means we are engaged in all phases of the business: exploration, production, transportation, refining and marketing. From San Ramon, we conduct business on six continents.
We also are good neighbors in communities around the Bay Area. As a corporation, we partner with governments, nonprofit organizations and aid agencies to invest in initiatives that help strengthen and improve our communities. Our employees are equally committed, volunteering their money and time to nonprofit organizations in California every year.
