The Chevron Center for Sustainable Energy Efficiency (CSEE) supports Qatar's sustainable development through research, demonstration and training in solar power and energy efficiency.
Located at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), the $20 million center studies solar power, solar air conditioning and lighting technologies suited to Qatar's buildings and climate. And we are joining forces with GreenGulf, a Qatar renewable energy company, to establish a major solar test facility at QSTP.
Chevron is collaborating with Qatar organizations to apply this knowledge, leading to effective green projects tailored to the local environment.
Technology
The Chevron CSEE focuses on three promising technologies for Qatar:
Solar Power
Qatar receives among the world's highest levels of solar energy. The CSEE visitor center at QSTP explains and demonstrates solar power technologies, while the solar test facility will measure the performance of commercial and experimental solar technologies from manufacturers worldwide.
Solar Air Conditioning
In hot climates, air conditioning can account for more than 60 percent of electricity use. At QSTP, Chevron will install and test state-of-the-art solar air conditioning systems, which use the sun's heat rather than electricity to drive a refrigeration cycle.
Energy Efficient Lighting
New lighting technologies can dramatically reduce buildings’ energy use and have one of the shortest payback periods. As a sponsor of university lighting research, Chevron is at the forefront of the technology and its commercialization. The CSEE demonstrates the latest lighting systems and controls.
Workshops
The Chevron CSEE conducts seminars and workshops on sustainable energy, designed for a variety of audiences including industry professionals, researchers and students, and the general public. To be informed of coming workshops, please subscribe to our e-mail alerts.
