Highlights of Operations

Chevron's long involvement in Africa's most populous nation extends from exploration and production to delivery of world-class products in hundreds of service stations. The company also plays an active role in Nigeria as a member of the community.

Chevron Nigeria Ltd. (CNL), Chevron's principal subsidiary in Nigeria, operates and holds a 40 percent interest in 13 concessions covering 2.2 million acres (8,900 sq km), predominantly in the onshore and near-offshore regions of the Niger Delta. CNL operates under a joint-venture arrangement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, which owns a 60 percent interest.

In 2007, total daily production from 32 fields averaged 353,000 barrels of crude oil, 14 million cubic feet of natural gas and 4,000 barrels of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The company's net oil-equivalent production in 2007 was 129,000 barrels per day.

Chevron has a large acreage position in deepwater offshore Nigeria, with interests in 12 deepwater blocks.

Discovered in 1998, the Agbami Field is one of the largest deepwater discoveries in Nigeria's history. Chevron also operates Block 1 in the Nigeria–São Tomé e Príncipe Joint Development Zone (JDZ) with a 45.9 percent funding interest.

With about 380 Texaco-branded service stations, Chevron is a major contributor to Nigeria's petroleum marketing industry. The company is a leading producer of quality lubricating oils and greases and owns a blending plant at Apapa, Lagos.

A workforce spread across upstream and downstream totals more than 2,000 employees, of which 90 percent is Nigerian.
