Responsible Care® is a global chemical industry performance initiative implemented through the American Chemistry Council.

Responsible Care helps America's leading chemical companies like Oronite, go above and beyond government requirements and openly communicate their results to the public.

Chevron Oronite received Responsible Care® (RC) 14001 Certification at its Oak Point manufacturing plant in Belle Chasse, Louisiana earlier this year. Now all Oronite manufacturing plants are either RC 14001 or International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 certified. Certification is more than a set of principles and declarations. It means Oronite plants are recognized for the successful implementation of Operational Excellence Management Systems.

Oak Point's Certification consisted of a multi-year effort to improve and upgrade the plant's management systems. Certain aspects of our USA management systems in Houston, Richmond, and San Ramon are included within the scope of RC 14001.

This is the culmination of a lot of hard work. We performed well and met the standards necessary for final Certification. We are very proud, said Gary Ward, an Oak Point Environmental Engineer.

There is no doubt that Oronite will be recognized as a leader in the industry when it comes to Responsible Care, Gary continued. Our Operational Excellence programs mean, in part, that we will be a good neighbor, and this Certification proves that we are doing our best for the community.

RC 14001 Certification is another example of the commitment of Oronite to be a responsible community member, and a safe and reliable supplier of quality additives. To ensure the plant continues to meet RC 14001 standards, external audits will be conducted periodically. These independent third party audits are conducted by certified bodies accredited by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board.

RC 14001 was developed by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) to provide guidelines for managing and controlling an organization’s products, services, processes and operations as it relates to environment, health, and safety (EHS). RC 14001 combines the efforts of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and Responsible Care, and is supplemented by chemical industry-specific EHS requirements. The RC 14001 technical specification enables a company, through an application and audit process, to obtain Certification confirming that its management system conforms to both the ISO 14001 and RC14001.
