Base Oils
All-Hydroprocessed Base Oils Eliminate Need for Expensive Correction Fluids:
Simplify Blending for GF-4

Tougher specifications have made it harder and harder for lubricant manufacturers to compete. Consequently, some blenders have been forced into elaborate three-way blending schemes, requiring two base oils and as much as 50% of expensive correction fluid. This cumbersome, inefficient solution requires additional base oil tanks and increases the chance of costly mistakes.

By using Chevron’s all-hydroprocessed Group II base oil you can produce GF-4 quality lubricants with a simple one step blending process. Because they are all-hydroprocessed, our base oils have:

  • higher purity
  • better oxidation stability
  • higher VI
  • lower CCS viscosity
  • lower volatility

Consequently, no correction fluid is needed to meet GF-4 specs! Your additive supplier knows how to take advantage of Chevron's high-quality base stocks.

Capacity is coming online to meet demand.
In June 2003 we increased production of 5R, the first all-hydroprocessed Group II+ on the market. Since then all major additive suppliers have been using 5R and other Chevron Group II base oils in their GF-4 development programs. As market demand for Group II+ grows, we will increase production capacity to meet the needs of the market.

Staying ahead with superior technology.
Chevron is the leader in developing refining technology for cleaner lubricants. We invented hydrocracking in 1962. In 1984 we were the first to produce all-hydroprocessed lubricants. In 1993 we introduced ISODEWAXING, the technology that made large-scale production of affordable, premium-quality base oils possible.

Group II base oils manufactured by our licensees are widely available and often can be used interchangeably with Chevron stocks (see your Chevron representative or additive supplier for details).

Our Group II and Group III products will keep you at the leading edge of product technology, with blending simplicity and reduced additive costs -- an elegant solution to the challenges of meeting GF-4.
