Community Involvement

The commitment of Refinery employees doesn't stop at our borders. When they're not at work, you'll find Chevron's El Segundo Refinery employees out in the community - sponsoring schools, coaching Little League teams, helping support a local aquarium or contributing to libraries and other precious community resources.

Community Sponsorships

The Chevron El Segundo Refinery's community involvement program includes a significant amount of financial investments in a variety of non-profit organizations, the focus of which is on K-12 education. Chevron donates over $200,000 annually to schools in the surrounding communities. Read our Grant Application Guidelines for information on Chevron's corporate policy on sponsorships and donations.

Community Advisory Panel

Since January 2002, the El Segundo Refinery has maintained a community advisory panel, or CAP, consisting of 20 residents and business people from El Segundo and Manhattan Beach. The CAP movement in this country began several years ago. After the Bhopal incident, communities near chemical plants and refineries became suspicious and fearful of their industrial neighbors. CAPs provide community members with an opportunity to learn about process units, safety measures and environmental performance. In turn, the CAP members act as "eyes and ears" in the community, conveying concerns and questions to facility management. The group meets once a month and they are in charge of setting the agenda.
