Base oils are the building blocks used to manufacture motors oils and other lubricants for consumer and commercial use.
Chevron's ISODEWAXING® catalyst revolutionized base oil quality. Virtually all of the world’s premium base oils are produced using this isomerized dewaxing technology. Due to their purity and oxidation stability, Chevron premium base oils enable lubricant blenders to cut costs while meeting stringent specifications for cleaner-burning engines.
We work closely with lubricant manufacturers, additive companies, equipment manufacturers and industry groups, including the American Petroleum Institute, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee, and the Society of Automotive Engineers, to advance industry standards that protect engine performance while enabling environmental compliance for new engine designs.
We produce premium base oils at two plants, one in Richmond, California, and the other at our joint-venture refinery in Yeosu, South Korea. In the first half of 2014, we expect to complete a third plant, at our refinery in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Full production is planned for midyear. When it is completed, the Pascagoula Base Oil Plant will make Chevron the world’s leading producer of premium base oil. Our premium base oils are shipped to 13 regional supply hubs in significant lubricant markets.
