Chevron Australia

At Chevron Australia, we think like a community member because we are a community member.

We can't replace the role of government, but we can make a difference.

We take a collaborative approach to developing Australia's energy resources and are proud to work hand-in-hand with a wide range of local partners. Right now, we have more than 75 partnerships within the community.

Our focus is on building productive, collaborative, trusting and beneficial relationships.

We don't just support energy development. We also support human and economic development. And, as a loyal community member, we are committed to working with community leaders to address the challenges faced by those where we operate.

In Australia, we focus on social investment in the northwest of Western Australia — home to the Gorgon and Wheatstone projects — and programs in Perth, where we are headquartered.

We want to help build better, stronger communities because we are part of the community.

Australian of the Year, 2005

When I was bestowed the honour of Australian of the Year in 2005, I was determined to use this recognition to promote the importance of health, wellness and education across all sectors of the community.

Improving the quality of life in communities is very important. Unfortunately, not everyone has the privilege to access vital needs. That can have a profound effect on the individual, their family and friends and, indeed, the wider community.

Big companies cannot just focus on issues within their own walls. It's the issues within the wider community that affect us all and need our collective attention.

Education and prevention is the cornerstone of community development, and working together is the only way we will achieve success – for everyone.

I applaud the integrity of companies like Chevron who partner with communities for a better tomorrow.
