We make a profit from producing energy and I'm glad we do. It's from these profits that we can invest in finding and producing energy to meet the needs of a growing economy.

Right now, Chevron is making the biggest single financial commitment to a project in our company's history — the Gorgon Project in the North West of Western Australia. And we're also making a huge investment in the Wheatstone Project — also in Western Australia.

To develop these projects, we're providing thousands of jobs and partnering with local companies. As Gorgon and Wheatstone continue to develop, we'll create even more jobs, providing more business to local suppliers, and contributing more to the Australian economy.

Our commitment to true partnerships means many people benefit from our success — now and in the future.

Business success is more than just a strong financial bottom line — it is about doing the "right thing." I believe it's extremely important that big business contribute to the communities in which they operate. Investing in the future today, means we can all plan for a better tomorrow and create lasting impacts.

Through my own support of community-based initiatives, I've been fortunate to see first-hand what a difference a little help, support and encouragement can make to an individual or group of people. Typically, there is a roll-on effect with jobs being created and opportunities realised.

It is only through working together — business, government and the community — that we can achieve sustainable success. The satisfaction of knowing you are able to help others realise their aspirations and dreams drives real success.

Chevron — and indeed any big business — that puts their profits to good use should be commended.
