We recently announced a significant new gas discovery at the Nargis-1 exploration well at the Nargis Offshore Area Concession, in the East Mediterranean, offshore Egypt.

Chevron has operating interests in four offshore exploration blocks and non-operating interest in two other offshore blocks.

Chevron is the operator of two blocks in the Western Mediterranean (North Sidi Barrani and North El Dabaa), one block in the Eastern Mediterranean (Nargis) and Red Sea Block 1, all in partnership with Tharwa Petroleum Company.

Chevron has non-operating interest in two other blocks in the Western Mediterranean (North Marina and North Cleopatra) with Royal Dutch Shell as the operating partner and Tharwa Petroleum as a partner.

On our Nargis-1 discovery, we are working together with the Government of Egypt, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and our other partners – Eni and Tharwa – to support the growth of Egypt's energy sector through this exploration program. The Eastern Mediterranean has abundant energy resources, and their development is driving strategic collaboration in the region.

Chevron possesses significant natural gas production capacity in the Eastern Mediterranean region. This natural gas is being sold to Egypt and other countries in the region. These gas sales have helped set Egypt on the path to becoming a regional energy hub.

Chevron has downstream operations in its 100% owned and operated 216,000-barrel (31,000-ton) lube oil blending plant located in the 4th industrial Zone in 6th October City. Chevron Egypt Lubricants S.A.E. has been manufacturing and marketing lubricants and greases for many decades in Egypt to a wide range of commercial, consumer, industrial and marine customers. We are now exporting these lubricants to countries in East Africa.

Chevron is committed to mutually beneficial partnerships. Wherever we operate, we collaborate with government, local communities, nongovernmental organizations and academic institutions to invest in economic and social progress.

In Egypt, Chevron, in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, has focused on providing practical Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, which is directly rooted in two of the main objectives of the Egypt 2030 Vision, “Equality and Inclusion” and “Knowledge and Innovation.”

As part of this collaboration, we initiated the “Girls Make” project. The project provides girls (12–17) in numerous governorates throughout Egypt with a “maker education” to encourage them to pursue education and careers in STEM.

Girls Make introduces the participants to concepts of programming and coding to tackle problems facing society. The program also gives exposure to conceptualizing, designing, ideation and developing products. The girls learn to tinker and design with real tools, such as laser cutters and 3D printers, to design prototypes. Overall, the project helps the girls to develop confidence in their STEM abilities. Initially, 90% of the participants had little to no programming background; but at the end, 100% of participants felt comfortable with programming, designing and prototyping.

We also worked with San3aTech and the Ministry to build a permanent maker space in the Manshia neighborhood in Cairo. This space provides children in the local community with an opportunity to get a maker education and develop prototypes for possible commercialization. In addition, the maker space provides a safe space for youth after school as well as an opportunity to learn critical life skills.

Chevron was also the title sponsor of the 2022 Maker’s Faire, which showcases the curiosity, creativity, innovations and hands-on learning of Egypt’s talented artists, makers and designers. In 2022, the event was attended by more than 5,500 people.
