Chevron Press Release - Chevron Discovers Norphlet Gas Field
NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 3, 1994 -- Chevron U.S.A. Production Company, a unit of Chevron Corporation (CHV), announced today a natural gas field discovery in the Gulf of Mexico Norphlet Trend. The Norphlet Trend extends some 80 miles east-west off the coasts of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi and has been estimated to contain over 8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves.
During September, the Mobile Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Block 863 No. 3, Norphlet well, was drilled and cored to total measured depth of 23,310 feet. The discovery is located in 60 feet of water 39 miles southwest of Mobile, Ala. Over 250 feet of net gas pay was encountered below 21,700 feet subsea. Chevron operates the well and lease and holds 70.9575% interest. Other joint interest participants in Block 863 are Elf Exploration, Inc. (17.5%) and Murphy Exploration & Production Company (11.5425%).
Production startup is planned for early 1996.
