PASCAGOULA, MISS., Oct. 1, 1998 Chevron today announced it has donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to aid victims of Hurricane Georges along the gulf coast.
The donation is designated for food and shelter for those left homeless by the severe storm.
The community has supported Chevron through the years and we wanted to give something back as we all recover from the devastation of this hurricane, said Graham Somerville, Pascagoula Refinery general manager. We wanted to provide assistance to our neighbors, customers, and friends, said Somerville.
Chevrons 295,000 bpd refinery remains closed, and crews are working hard to assess the damage caused by the storm. The refinery was safely shut down before the hurricane hit, and there were no injuries or environmental problems as a result of the storm.
