Chevron Press Release - Chevron Launches Foodini's Fresh Meal Market
New retail food market features high-quality, freshly prepared meals-to-go
SAN FRANCISCO, March 18, 1998 -- Chevron today announced the launch of its new convenience retail offering -- Foodinis Fresh Meal Market. Foodinis is a unique retail food market that provides people an "escape from cooking." It has a variety of high-quality, freshly prepared, pre-packaged and made-to-order meals-to-go for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The first Foodinis, which will open March 24 in San Ramon, Calif., is one of several pilot stores scheduled to open this year in Northern California and the Phoenix area.
"Chevrons mission is to become a leading convenience retailer, not just a purveyor of gasoline," said Dale Walsh, manager of retail development for Chevron Products Co. "We can accomplish this by making our customers lives easier. Foodinis was created in response to the ever-growing need for quality meals that fit into busy lifestyles."
In fact, nearly half of Americans are cooking fewer meals at home than they were two years ago (Tableservice Trends, 1997) and take-out dinners have doubled between 1986 and 1996 (NPD Group). Furthermore, according to a survey cited in Business Week (March 9, 1998), Americans spend more on prepared meals sold at delis, supermarkets and casual dining restaurants than they do at burger chains.
Foodinis has dedicated the resources and assembled a core team of professionals with expertise in the grocery, restaurant and convenience store industries to help provide customers with creative meal solutions in a unique environment. Additionally, Foodinis is operated by professional foodservice people.
"We are confident well succeed because consumers have told us theyre pressed for time and ideas, and therefore are not cooking at home as often," added Walsh. "Foodinis was designed specifically to meet this need."
With the help of Foodinis friendly staff, customers can shop easily and quickly for everything they need to assemble a complete meal-to-go any time of the day, including fresh flowers for the table.
The Foodinis menu includes such ready-to-heat and ready-to-eat main courses as BBQ Chicken and Vegetable Lasagna, offered with a choice of two side dishes. Customers can also find a variety of freshly prepared or pre-packaged sandwiches and salads, such as Three Cheese Pesto, Turkey with an Attitude, and Chicken Caesar salad.
Foodinis Fresh Meal Market is owned by Chevron Products Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chevron Corp., which is headquartered in San Francisco.
