ChevronTexaco Announces $1 Million Donation to New Orleans Signature Schools Program

SAN RAMON, Calif., Nov. 5, 2004 -- In an effort to help local high school students gain hands-on opportunities to learn about future career choices, ChevronTexaco Corp. will donate $1 million to the New Orleans Public School System to advance the Signature Schools program.

"ChevronTexaco's contribution enhances our students' potential for academic success and prepares them to enter the Louisiana job market with competent skills," said Orleans Parish Public Schools Superintendent Anthony Amato.

Launched in 2003-2004, the Signature Schools program provides students with job-shadowing opportunities, internships and field experiences related to their potential career choice in areas like automotive technology, aviation/aerospace, science and technology, and finance. The grant will allow the Signature Schools program to expand its programs, technology and capabilities.

"We strongly believe in the power of partnerships in the communities where we operate. This important program offers students necessary skills that will open doors of opportunity and enable young people to enter and succeed in the local work force," said Melody Meyer, vice president of the ChevronTexaco Gulf of Mexico Business Unit. "Experience has taught us that contributions to established programs like the Signature Schools program promote education and help to foster economic growth that ultimately improves people's lives."
