Fire in Attaka field

Unocal resumed oil and gas production from the Attaka field on Mar 1, 2004.
Balikpapan, Feb. 24, 2004 - On Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at 10:35 a.m. a flash fire occurred at one of Unocal Indonesia Company's offshore platforms of Attaka field. Attaka field is located approximately 19 kilometers east of Tanjung Santan, East Kalimantan.
The fire was immediately extinguished and Attaka field has been temporarily shut-in pending an incident investigation. Nine people were injured in the fire. Seven of them were transported by helicopter to Pertamina Hospital in Balikpapan for medical treatment, and the other two were released after receiving first aid treatment at local a medical facility. The management of Unocal is deeply concerned about the incident and has immediately notified families of the injured.
Tommy Kartawidjaja, Vice President Unocal Indonesia Balikpapan, stated, "Our emergency response team has been activated and an investigation team has been formed to determine causes of the incident. We will not return the field to production until we are sure operations can be conducted safely."
