Chevron Press Release - Porkert Joins Chevron As Chief Procurement Officer
SAN FRANCISCO, July 22, 1999 -- Chevron Corp. today announced that Helmut F. Porkert has joined the company in the new position of chief procurement officer.
Reporting to Chevron Vice Chairman Dave O'Reilly, Porkert directs the company's recently created global procurement activity.
"By leveraging Chevron's buying power companywide, we can realize major savings on Chevron's $10 billion annual expenditure for materials and services," he said. "We'll also look to our suppliers for their active support in establishing a mutually beneficial partnership to help Chevron cut costs, and to add value in other ways."
Porkert was most recently head of ARCO's procurement organization. Prior to that, he had a long career with Bayer, where he created and implemented the company's U.S. procurement and supply chain function.
