Warren Petroleum, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, based in San Francisco, is the largest U.S. marketer of natural gas liquids, with sales equal to about 10 percent of the market.
Furbacher will succeed Peter J. Robertson, who, as previously announced, will be moving to San Francisco as Chevron Corporation's vice president in charge of strategic planning and quality.
Furbacher is currently vice president and general manager of the Natural Gas Business Unit of Chevron U.S.A. Production Co., based in Houston. He will be succeeded in that position by David R. Dunn, manager of strategic planning for the corporation.
Furbacher, 46, joined Chevron in August 1973 as a design engineer at the company's Richmond, Calif., refinery. He progressed through refinery positions of increasing responsibility, and in 1981 became a staff analyst at corporate headquarters.
In 1983, he was named manager of the Bakersfield, Calif., refinery. In 1985, he joined Chevron Chemical Co., where he held a series of management positions until 1989, when he became assistant general manager of the natural gas business unit.
He graduated from Valparaiso University, Indiana, in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Dunn, 49, is a 1967 civil engineering graduate of Lamar University who joined Gulf Corporation as a petroleum engineer right after graduation. He has worked in a variety of posts with increasing responsibility, primarily in the area of oil production, for Gulf and later Chevron.
