Texaco Press Release - Alan Kleier Receives Outstanding Board Member Award from Inroads/Colorado, Inc.

FOR RELEASE: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2000

DENVER, Oct. 5 - INROADS/Colorado, Inc. has named Alan Kleier, Vice President for Texaco Exploration and Production Inc.'s Central U.S. Business Unit, its Outstanding Board Member for 2000. The annual award honors the board member who has had the greatest impact on the success of the affiliate.

In presenting the award during the annual awards banquet, Hollis Booker, Managing Director of INROADS/Colorado, said, "We appreciate the energy and enthusiasm Alan Kleier brings to our program. Since his first day, he has been willing to work with us to make a difference." Kleier is currently serving his second year on the board.

While accepting the award, Kleier stated, "Texaco is committed to the development of a diverse and creative workforce. Working with INROADS/Colorado has given me the opportunity to underscore Texaco's commitment to diversity and leadership development to the communities in which we work. It is a great honor to receive this award; however, the accomplishments of INROADS/Colorado result from the dedication and work of all board members and the INROADS staff. It is a pleasure to be associated with such individuals."

Texaco's commitment to INROADS/Colorado was further highlighted by the nomination of Kristi Brindle, Resource Advisor for the Central U.S. Business Unit, as Business Coordinator of the Year. Brindle was one of four nominees in this category, out of over 70 coordinators in the Denver area. Business Coordinators are recognized for their dedication to the development of their interns and enthusiastic support of the program.

INROADS is a national non-profit organization which helps businesses and industry develop talented minority youth for professional careers. The INROADS/Colorado affiliate opened in 1984 with 25 sponsoring companies and 52 interns. Today, the affiliate has grown to be the fourth largest of 52 affiliates in the nation, with 309 interns and 76 sponsoring companies.

This year, Texaco offices throughout the United States employed 110 INROADS interns. Student interns often begin the summer they graduate from high school, and work on site during summer and winter breaks throughout their college experience. While gaining real-world experience, INROADS interns participate in training workshops, coaching, and community service activities.
