BusinessLINC Exceeds Year-End Goal
The following Press Release was issued by The Business Roundtable.
FOR RELEASE: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2000
WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 17, 2000 - The Business Roundtable (BRT) concluded the first national BusinessLINC conference today in Washington, D.C. with the announcement of eight new BusinessLINC coalitions in Richmond, New Orleans, Atlanta, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Flint (MI), Buffalo, and the Southwest Border. This brings the total number of local BusinessLINC Coalitions to sixteen, which exceeds the National Coalition's year-end expectations.
The National BusinessLINC Conference was held October 15th through the 17th to communicate BusinessLINC's objective of fostering mentoring relationships between large and small companies in economically distressed urban and rural areas. (The LINC acronym stands for Learning, Investment, Networking and Collaboration.) The National Coalition also encouraged the creation of local coalitions by providing case studies of successful business partnerships from around the country to use as "best practice" examples.
The Business Roundtable established a year-end 2000 goal of doubling the number of local BusinessLINC coalitions throughout the country. BusinessLINC began the year with six coalitions in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, D.C., the Mississippi River Delta Region and New York City. Since then, other coalitions have been formed in Houston and San Francisco. The addition of these eight new local coalitions exceeds the National Coalition's expectations of its year-end expansion efforts.
"We are delighted with the progress made by the National Coalition in supporting the development of new local coalitions throughout the country. In order for this program to be successful, it is vital that the National Coalition continues to challenge corporations to recognize the role they must play in extending the reach of the country's unparalleled economic growth to every community," stated BusinessLINC National Chairman, Peter I. Bijur, Chairman and CEO of Texaco Inc.
The U.S. Department of Treasury and the Small Business Administration, in collaboration with The Business Roundtable, launched the BusinessLINC initiative as a partnership with America's business community in August 1999.
