Texaco Press Release - Janet L. Stoner Elected Vice President of Texaco Inc.

Responsibility for Worldwide Human Resources

FOR RELEASE: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1997.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Sept. 29 - Janet L. Stoner has been elected Vice President of Texaco Inc. with responsibility for the company's worldwide human resources policies and programs, it was announced today by Texaco chairman and chief executive officer Peter I. Bijur. Stoner replaces Richard F. Brenner, who has elected to retire, effective November 1.

Most recently Stoner has served as Vice President, International Producing (Latin American Region) and Director of New Business Development for the Latin American Region.

Commenting on the appointment, Bijur said, "Janet Stoner has demonstrated exceptional leadership skill and operational accomplishment during her career with Texaco. This experience, together with her recognition of the importance of people to Texaco's success, makes her ideally suited for this new responsibility. In her new assignment Janet will lead a talented team in the development and application of human resources programs designed to make the Texaco family the most skilled and admired workforce in the energy industry."

Stoner was graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor of science degree in physical education in 1970, and a master of science degree in mathematics in 1972.

Stoner joined Texaco as an Engineer's Assistant with the Offshore Division in New Orleans in 1974. She was named a Petroleum Engineer in Morgan City, La., in 1977. She was appointed Senior Petroleum Engineer in New Orleans in 1981.

In 1988 Stoner was appointed Assistant to the Executive Vice President of Texaco USA in Houston and, in 1989, was named Director of Technical Services for the company's Upstream Headquarters' activities. In 1990 she was appointed Regional Manager of Technology and Administration for Texaco's Eastern Exploration and Production Division in New Orleans, and, in 1992, was named Manager of the Offshore Producing Division of the Eastern Exploration and Producing Region of Texaco Exploration and Production Inc. In 1993 she was appointed General Manager - Texaco Operated Production, Texaco Ltd. in Aberdeen, Scotland. She was named Vice President of Exploration and Production for Texaco's Latin America/West Africa division in 1995.

In her new assignment Stoner will relocate to the company's corporate offices in New York.
