Texaco Press Release - Melvin E. "Gene" Mills Named Division Manager - Global Drilling Alliances
FOR RELEASE: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 1997.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Nov. 17 - Melvin E. "Gene" Mills has been named Director of Global Drilling Alliances and Technology, effective December 1, it was announced today by C. Robert Black, Senior Vice President of Texaco Inc. and President of Texaco Worldwide Exploration and Production. In his new position, Mills will be responsible for leading the development of Texaco's global drilling alliances and accelerating technology transfer with a goal of improving efficiency while reducing the company's drilling costs.
In making the announcement, Black said, "Gene's depth of experience, his extensive knowledge of drilling, and his collaborative approach will serve him well as the leader of our efforts to continually improve Texaco's drilling operations through technology and alliances."
Mills earned a bachelor of science degree from Southern Illinois University in 1969. He joined Texaco that same year as an Engineering Assistant in the Producing Department in Salem, Ill.
Between 1969 and 1989, Mills held various positions of increasing responsibility in petroleum engineering in the Producing Department in Illinois and Oklahoma. In 1989, he was named Gas Manager for the Denver Division, and in 1992 was named Assistant Division Manager of the Bakersfield, (Calif.) Producing Division.
In 1994, Mills was appointed Assistant to the President of Texaco Exploration and Production Inc., and in 1996 he was named Vice President of the Bakersfield Region of Texaco North America Production, the position he has held until this most recent appointment.
Mills will relocate to Houston in his new position.
