Texaco Press Release - Rob J. Routs Named New President and CEO of Equilon Enterprises LLC


WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., March 6 - Rob J. Routs has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Equilon Enterprises LLC. The announcement was made today by Texaco Inc. and Shell Oil Company, shareholders of the U.S. alliance company, which has refining and marketing operations in 28 western and mid-western states and nationwide transportation and lubricants businesses.

Routs, whose appointment is effective April 1, succeeds Jim Morgan who has elected to retire. Routs is currently President, Shell Global Solutions International B.V., based in The Hague, Netherlands.

Commenting on Routs' appointment, Texaco Senior Vice President Glenn Tilton and Shell Oil Company Chairman, President and CEO Steven L. Miller said in a joint statement, "Rob has demonstrated throughout his career at Shell that he possesses the key leadership qualities that are required to take Equilon forward.

"Along with Motiva Enterprises, Equilon is part of the largest downstream enterprise in the United States and has a strong portfolio of assets. Under Rob's leadership the company has the potential to grow from the solid foundations that have been laid since its formation in early-1998 and successfully meet the challenges facing the industry today."

Routs holds a master of science degree in chemical engineering from the Technical University of Eindhoven and a Ph.D. in technical sciences, gained at Eindhoven and at the Karolinska Institutet, University of Stockholm. He joined Shell's research division in Amsterdam in 1973 after completing 20 months military service in the Dutch Army.

In 1977 he was appointed as an Environmental Consultant for Shell Canada, based in Montreal. He went on to hold a number of positions of increasing responsibility, including Operations Manager, Montreal East Refinery from 1983 to 1987 and Operations Superintendent, Scotford Refinery from 1987 to 1989. He was appointed General Manager, Montreal East Refinery in 1989 and became Vice President, Manufacturing and Distribution in 1996. In 1997 he was named President, Shell Canada Oil Products and Chemicals and was appointed to his current position in 1999.

In his new position, Routs will be based in Houston, Texas.
