Texaco Press Release - Robert N. Ryan, Jr., Named Assistant to the Chairman of Texaco Inc.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Dec. 15 - Robert N. Ryan, Jr., has been named Assistant to the Chairman of Texaco Inc., effective January 1, 1998, Texaco Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter I. Bijur announced today.
Ryan currently is Assistant to Management in the office of Senior Vice President C. Robert Black, where he has assisted in the development of the company's strategic plan for upstream operations. In his new assignment, Ryan will continue to be located in Texaco's corporate offices in Harrison, N.Y.
"Bobby Ryan's understanding and experience in the upstream business will be valuable assets to our entire management team," said Bijur. "His creativity and demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills will serve him well as he undertakes his new responsibilities."
Ryan joined Texaco in 1979 as a geologist in New Orleans, and subsequently held a variety of professional geological positions of increasing responsibility in exploration and production assignments. In 1989 he was appointed Area Manager for the Eastern Gulf of Mexico in Texaco Exploration and Producing Inc.'s (TEPI) Offshore Division in New Orleans.
In 1990, through the President's Commission on Executive Exchange in the White House, Ryan was appointed Staff Assistant in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Conservation and Renewable Energy in the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. He returned to Texaco in 1991 as Staff Coordinator for TEPI in Houston, and in 1993 was named Assistant Division Manager in TEPI's Offshore Division, in New Orleans.
Ryan holds a bachelor of science degree and a master of science degree in geology from Tulane University.
