Texaco Press Release - Roger L. Ebert Named New President and CEO of Motiva Enterprises LLC


WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Mar. 2 - Roger L. Ebert has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Motiva Enterprises LLC. The announcement was made today by Texaco Inc., Shell Oil Company and Saudi Aramco, shareholders of the U.S refining and marketing alliance company, which operates in 26 Eastern and Gulf Coast states.

Ebert, whose appointment is effective May 1, succeeds Wilson Berry, who has elected to retire. Ebert is currently Vice President of Marketing and Manufacturing for Texaco in the UK and Ireland, based in London, England.

Commenting on Ebert's appointment, Texaco Senior Vice President Glenn F. Tilton, Shell Oil Company Chairman, President and CEO officer Steven L. Miller and Saudi Aramco Senior Vice President, International Operations Sa'ad Al-Shaifan said in a joint statement, "In just two years, Motiva has firmly established itself as one of the largest downstream companies in the Eastern United States and, along with Equilon Enterprises, is part of the largest downstream enterprise in the country. It is a well-positioned company that is ready to move into the next phase of its development - one of growth.

"Throughout his Texaco career, Roger has proven himself a catalyst for growth. His leadership skills and vision will be key assets to Motiva and, under his guidance, the company will be well equipped to meet the challenges currently facing the refining and marketing industry in the United States."

Ebert holds a bachelor of science degree in political science from Florence State University in Alabama. He joined Texaco in 1972 as a sales trainee in Louisville, Kentucky, following active duty as a Captain in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and Germany. During the 1970s, he held several positions of increasing responsibility, including Assistant to the Management in the office of the President of Texaco Inc.

In 1981, he was named Manager of the Houston Division of Texaco U.S.A.'s Marketing Department and went on to hold a number of senior domestic marketing positions before he was appointed Assistant to The President of Texaco's Latin America/West Africa Division in 1987. He was named General Manager of the Division in 1988 and in 1993 he became Regional Director -- Manufacturing and Marketing - Caribbean and Central America. He was named to his current position in January 1996.

In his new position, Ebert will be based in Houston, Texas.
