TEXACO APPOINTS MICHAEL G. McQUEENEY ACTING GENERAL COUNSEL

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Jan. 31 - Michael G. McQueeney has been appointed Acting General Counsel of Texaco, effective March 9, it was announced today by Texaco Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter I. Bijur. McQueeney will assume his new assignment following the departure of Deval L. Patrick, currently Texaco Inc. Vice President and General Counsel, who has accepted the position of Executive Vice President and General Counsel of The Coca-Cola Company, based in Atlanta, effective April 18.
"Mike has consistently demonstrated his strong legal acumen and leadership skills over the course of his career with Texaco, and he has earned the respect of his colleagues both within and outside of the company," said Bijur. "These important qualities will ensure the continued high caliber of service we have come to expect from Texaco's Legal Department."
McQueeney was graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor of science degree in industrial and labor relations in 1980. He earned a juris doctorate from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1983. McQueeney joined Texaco that same year in the Legal Department office in Houston. He was appointed section head of the Employment Group in Houston in 1989 and Senior Attorney in 1994. He was named head of the Litigation, Employment and Environmental section in that office in 1996. Prior to being named Acting General Counsel, McQueeney served as Associate General Counsel for Litigation and Regulatory. In his new assignment, he will have offices in both Houston and Texaco's Corporate Center in White Plains, New York.
