FOR RELEASE: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1997.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Feb. 27 - Texaco announced today that it has selected KJS Marketing Communications Solutions, a San Antonio, Texas-based full-service advertising and public relations firm specializing in the Hispanic market, to assist the company in reaching the Hispanic community in the U.S.
KJS, which generates annual billings of more than $18 million, will support Texaco's advertising programs in conjunction with BBDO, Texaco's corporate advertising agency selected in January 1997; UniWorld Group Inc., a minority owned and operated agency selected in November 1996 to assist Texaco in reaching the African-American marketplace; and Bates USA, which manages Texaco's product advertising in the U.S.
In making the announcement, Texaco Vice President of Worldwide Advertising and Sales Promotion Stephen C. Kutler said, "After a thorough review, we are pleased to select KJS for its expertise and presence in the Hispanic community. The KJS team has extensive experience in both the general market and the Hispanic market, which will be critical in helping Texaco to create a consistent message and image in all segments of the marketplace."
KJS President and Creative Director Katherine Sosa commented, "KJS is extremely proud to have been selected by one of the world's leading companies. Texaco has a strong minority program and ambitious goals. We look forward to communicating that story to the U.S. Hispanic community at all levels."
KJS' expertise and insight into the Hispanic market will drive strategic planning and creative services for the outreach efforts. "We look forward to being a part of Texaco's activities to strengthen its relationship with the Hispanic community. Texaco really cares about doing the right thing, and we are proud to be on their team," Sosa said.
KJS, founded in 1987, serves a roster of clients that includes Anheuser-Busch Companies, Dr Pepper, Service Merchandise, Columbia Healthcare Corp. and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Members of the agency have received numerous creative awards, including several Clios, Tellys, American Advertising Federation "Addy" Awards, and a One Club "One Show" pencil.
Today's announcement is consistent with Texaco's plans to broaden its base of vendors and suppliers of services with additional women- and minority-owned firms. Texaco's business partnering program was developed as part of the company's efforts to ensure that its business practices enhance its ability to compete successfully in the complex global marketplace.
