TYRONE G. BYRD APPOINTED ASSISTANT TREASURER OF TEXACO INC.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., May 27 – Tyrone G. Byrd has been appointed Assistant Treasurer of Texaco Inc., it was announced today by James F. Link, Treasurer of Texaco Inc. In this assignment, Byrd will be responsible for the treasury management activities for worldwide exploration and production.
"Tyrone Byrd possesses considerable fiscal expertise and business acumen. We look forward to his continuing contributions to both the finance and upstream teams," said Link.
Byrd graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1973 with a bachelor of arts degree in history and economics. After college, he briefly played professional football with The Green Bay Packers as a wide receiver. Byrd then earned an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1977 with a concentration in accounting, finance and marketing. He then spent 12 years with two U.S. banking institutions, where he rose to the position of vice president/team leader in corporate lending.
Byrd joined Texaco in 1990 in Houston as Manager Finance for Texaco USA. In that position, he handled the financial activities of Texaco Refining and Marketing Inc. He assumed daily management responsibilities over the worldwide upstream finance group in 1998 and shortly thereafter was named Treasurer of Texaco Worldwide Exploration and Production. In his new assignment, Byrd will be a member of the Finance Department's leadership team and will continue his upstream duties.
Byrd will continue to be located in Houston.
