Texaco Press Release - Willie M. Stanfield Named Vice President Safety
New Position Underscores Company's Commitment to Safety in Worldwide Operations
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: THURSDAY, MAY 20, 1999.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., May 20 - In support of its commitment to achieving and maintaining world-class safety policies and performance, Texaco today announced the establishment of a new position, Vice President Safety, within the company's Safety, Health and Environment Division, and the appointment of Willie M. Stanfield to the role. Stanfield, whose appointment is effective June 1, will also serve as chairperson of Texaco's Safety Council. Stanfield is currently General Manager of Texaco's Public Relations Department.
Commenting on the new position, David G. Yetter, President of Texaco's Safety, Health and Environment Division, said, "Texaco is firmly committed to achieving a level of safety that is second to none within our industry. We will do so by establishing rigorous policies, educating and training employees and contractors, and challenging all of our business teams to achieve excellence in safety performance. Stanfield began his career with Texaco in 1965 at the company's executive offices in New York and was appointed a Sales Representative in 1970 in New York City. He was subsequently promoted to positions of increasing responsibility in the Sales Department both on the East Coast and in Houston, Texas. In 1994 he was named Assistant to the President of Texaco USA, and in 1996 he was appointed Director of Public and Government Affairs, Eastern USA.
In November 1996 Stanfield was named Assistant to the Chairman of Texaco Inc. with responsibility for corporate-wide minority business plans and liaison with key national civil rights organizations. He was named to his current position in 1998.
Stanfield was graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a bachelor of science degree in transportation and distribution management.
Stanfield will remain at Texaco's corporate center in White Plains, N.Y.
