Unocal's 76 Products Company announces alliance with Southern Counties Oil/CardLock Fuels System
Brea, Calif., Feb. 6, 1996 -- Unocal's 76 products Company today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding leading to a strategic alliance with Cardlock Fuels System, a member of the Southern Counties Oil Companies.
The alliance with Southern Counties/Cardlock Fuels calls for the joint construction, development and operation of unattended, co-branded commercial fueling facilities (cardlocks) throughout California. The new sites will complement the existing 200 locations in the Southern Counties/Cardlock Fuels network and Unocal 76's 1,200 service station sites. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"We are pleased to form this alliance with Southern Counties/Cardlock Fuels," said Gary Sproule, vice president, marketing for 76 Products Company. "This alliance, coupled with the signing of an agreement with FUELMAN/GASCARD, positions Unocal 76 as a leader in the commercial fleet fuel business."
The new company forged from the Unocal 76 and Southern Counties/Cardlock Fuels alliance will seek its own customers and issue its own co-branded Cardlock access cards.
It is expected that the sites to be developed by this new company will be co-branded, using the logos of both Unocal 76 and Cardlock Fuels. They will be owned and managed for the benefit of the two companies and their commercial customers.
76 Products Company is the marketing, refining, product supply and transportation unit of Unocal Corporation. 76 Products Company has approximately 1,200 branded Unocal 76 service stations throughout the West and operates three California refineries with a crude oil processing capacity of 250,000 barrels per day.
