Unocal's 76 Products Company announces exclusive agreement to market Fuelman fleet cards

BREA, Calif., Feb. 6, 1996 -- Unocal's 76 Products Company today announced the signing of an exclusive marketing licensing agreement with FUELMAN/GASCARD, a leading provider of fuel management and maintenance systems for local and regional fleets.

The agreement gives 76 Products Company a 20-year exclusive license to market FUELMAN/GASCARD services. Beginning in March 1996, 76 Products Company will market FUELMAN/GASCARD in California, Arizona, Nevada, Washington and Hawaii. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"This alliance, coupled with a recent agreement signed with Southern Counties/Cardlock Fuels, positions 76 Products Company as a leader in the commercial fleet fuel business," said Gary W. Sproule, vice president, marketing for 76 Products Company.

All FUELMAN/GASCARD cards will be accepted at the more than 1,200 existing Unocal 76 service stations -- and throughout the 46 state FUELMAN/GASCARD network -- providing a coast-to-coast network of more than 10,000 new sites for Unocal 76 commercial accounts.

Unlike other major credit cards, FUELMAN/GASCARD cards have special approval codes to guard against fraud, much like those used to access Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). In addition, odometer readings are captured and let drivers know when their vehicles are due for regular maintenance and service check-ups.

Fleetman, Inc., dba FUELMAN/GASCARD, is a New Orleans, Louisiana-based, closely-held private company. The FUELMAN/GASCARD network currently processes more than 250 million commercial fuel and maintenance transactions annually and provides more than 600 million gallons of fuel for fleet customers.

"With more than three billion commercial fuel and maintenance transactions occurring annually and having Unocal 76 a part of our network, coupled with their commitment to marketing the FUELMAN/GASCARD products, we expect both of our volumes and market share to increase substantially," said Kingsley A. McCallum, chairman of FUELMAN/GASCARD.

76 Products Company is the marketing, refining, product supply and transportation unit if Unocal Corporation. 76 Products Company has approximately 1,200 branded Unocal 76 service stations throughout the West and operates three California refineries with a crude oil processing capacity of 250,000 barrels per day.
