Unocal announces management changes for Far East, Canada operations
El Segundo, Calif., April 20, 2004 - Unocal Corporation (NYSE: UCL) today announced a series of management changes that are expected to improve the company's marketing and business development activities. The changes will become effective July 1, 2004.
Randy Howard will become senior vice president, Global Gas, based in El Segundo. In his new role, Howard will work closely with the Unocal business units and gas marketing staff to enhance the company's position in global gas markets and assist with new gas sales agreements. Howard has been vice president, International Energy Operations, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam since 1999.
Steve Green will succeed Howard as vice president, International Energy Operations - Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Green will be based in Bangkok.
Don Hansen, will succeed Green as vice president, International Energy Operations with responsibility for the company's activities in West Africa, Latin America, Caspian region, China, Europe, and Canada. He is currently president and chief executive officer of Northrock Resources, a wholly owned Unocal subsidiary in Calgary, Canada. Hansen will be based in Sugar Land, Texas.
Dave Pearce will be named president of Northrock. He is currently senior vice president, Exploration and Production, and chief operating officer for the Canadian subsidiary. Pearce will remain in Calgary.
Randy Howard has provided regional business development leadership and helped Thailand achieve record levels of performance over the past several years. He was president of Unocal Thailand, Ltd., until earlier this year. Prior to his assignment in Thailand, he served as a group vice president, International Operations (1998-99), and vice president, Geothermal (1997-98). Howard joined Unocal in 1973 at the company's San Francisco Refinery. He went on to hold a variety of positions in refinery management, crude oil/product supply, and planning in San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles. Howard holds a BS degree in chemical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
Steve Green joined Unocal in 1998 in the gas marketing group, becoming vice president, International Energy Marketing, in 1999. He was appointed vice president, International Energy Operations - India, Bangladesh, and China, in 2002 and became vice president, International Energy Operations - West Africa, Latin America, Caspian, China and Europe, in 2003. Green came to Unocal with extensive experience in the gas business from prior positions with MidCon Corporation, Koch Industries, and Transco Energy Company. He holds a BS degree in engineering from Texas A&M University and completed the Executive Program at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Don Hansen will coordinate international business development activities for areas outside existing business units, in addition to existing activities. He joined Northrock as president and chief operating officer in 1992 and was named chief executive officer in February 1995. Before joining Northrock, Hansen was the vice president, Operations, for Sceptre Resources in Canada and held positions in production engineering, exploitation, and gas marketing at Dome Petroleum and Amoco Canada. He holds a BS degree in engineering from the University of Saskatchewan.
Dave Pearce joined Northrock in 1999 as senior vice president, Exploration and Production. He added the chief operating officer responsibilities in 2003. Pearce has a BS degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Manitoba.
